The concept
Videt comes up with the idea of making video art accessible to everybody; that’s why we look for a place in which the work of video art and the public can get in touch easily and comfortably.
We also believe in the necessity of overcoming the established canons in art, which make its relationship with the public difficult. We wish to do this in places the public can take as their own. That is, getting away of those temples, such as art galleries or some museums, where everything seems to be exposed by specialist who reduce the work of art to the specialised regard.
Why we project our work in shop windows
We choose to project our video art work in shops because it is in these places where people walk by.
Stores have shop windows. And it is in this place where we are able to show our work directly to the people that are walking, going shopping and spending their free time. In this way, people meet video art without abandoning either what they are doing or a place they feel as their own, the street.
Moreover, we achieve to let the public, as well as the commercial establishments, give their own opinion about what they are experimenting. In this way, the relationship place-spectator-work of art makes sense.
The name: Videt
The name Videt comes from the necessity of finding a word which expresses the relationship between video art and contemporaneity.
Videt is also a homage to the artist Duchamp and his art.
We make a spelling mistake and instead of a B write a V and create a new word and a new concept.
Regarding Videt as an intimate object, we achieve a creation with extremely intimate connections. The work of art is something we have to look at from the intimacy of our naked feelings, because it is the way that it wants to talk to us.
